On the 14th anniversary of China's accession to the WTO, the 5th China WTO Moot Court Competition was held at Southwest University of Political Science and Law on December 11th, 2015, a total of 16 well-known universities in China took part in the competition. After two days of intense competition, the Southwest University of Political Science and Law won the First Place, the University of International Business and Economics won the Second Place. Our university and the Foreign Affairs University won the Third Place. Four oralists FEI Simin, LUO Sa, LUO Xinqu and HUANG Yuwen were awarded the Best Oralists for their outstanding performance.
China WTO Moot Court Competition is co-hosted by Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, China University of Political Science, Southwest University of Political Science and Law and China Law Society. The competition is intended to propel the study of WTO and its Dispute Settlement Mechanism, to promote the mastering and application of WTO rules to innovate the discussion about the economy globalization and to improve students' comprehensive legal ability and capability of English debate through the simulation of the panel procedure under the WTO's Dispute Settlement Mechanism.
The process of the WTO Moot Court was wonderful, with each team fully prepared and presenting their views in fluent English, showing their abundant knowledge about WTO and excellent English expression ability. Assembled in October this year, professor XIAO Jun from the Institute of International Law is the coach of Wuhan University Team. Postgraduate DING Ying is the team leader. Under the guidance of the professor, FEI Simin, LUO Sa, DUAN Qiong, LI Danhong, LUO Xinqu and HUANG Yuwen kept on deepening their understanding and application ability of WTO Dispute Settlement Mechanism and WTO rules through thorough study of the case. Their solid professional knowledge and English ability demonstrated during the process of the competition have won unanimous praise from the organizing committee and the judges. And as far as we know, the Wuhan University Team will take part in the Asian Elsa WTO Moot Court Competition held in Singapore next middle of March.
