Wuhan University Team Won the First Prize in the 2017 6th China WTO Moot Court Competition

The 6th China WTO Moot Court Competition was held in Southwest University of Political Science and Law from December 8th to 9th, 2017. A total of 14 teams from well-known universities of China such as China University of Political Science and Law and Xiamen University participated in the competition. Professor XIAO Jun is the coach of our team and postgraduates RUI Xinyue and ZHANG Lu are assistant coaches. Team members are postgraduates REN Junyong, PAN Min, LIU Zhengyang, HUANG Yuanyuan XIAO Shuang and undergraduates HONG Ying. After two-days of intense competition, our team won the First Prize, Best Oralist of the Applicant and Best Memorial of the Respondent.

 

China WTO Moot Court Competition is co-hosted by Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, China University of Political Science, Southwest University of Political Science and Law and China Law Society. The competition is intended to propel the study of WTO and its Dispute Settlement Mechanism, to promote the mastering and application of WTO rules and to facilitate the training and selection of foreign legal talents through the simulation of the panel procedure under the WTO's Dispute Settlement Mechanism. Judges of this competition are officials of the Department of Treaty and Law of Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, lawyers from top domestic law firms in the field of WTO DSU and experts of the WTO Law from universities.

 

This is the 5th year for our team to take part in the China WTO Moot Court Competition. Since the participation in the competition, our team has won the First Prize for four consecutive years, Best Oralist of the Applicant and Best Memorial of the Respondent for multiple times. Our great success is deeply related to the support of university, the careful guidance of coaches and hard-work of team members. Since the formation of the team in October, they've been preparing the competition efficiently under the guidance of Professor XIAO Jun. While mastering the fundamental knowledge of WTO, they made in-depth analyses of relevant provisions and cases, showed high level of research and strong team spirit in the competition. Team members great exercised and improved their ability of legal research and English debate during the preparation, which has laid a solid foundation for their future study and research in this field. In the future, our team will continue to draw on past experiences and unite together, write a new chapter of the WHU WTO Moot Court Team. (Contributor: RUI Xinyue)
