Wuhan University Team Adds More Brilliance to the Achieved Splendor in the 16th National Round of Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.

The 16th Chinese National Round of Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was held in Renmin University of China from February 24th to 26th 2018. 49 teams from law schools across the country were in a 3-day intense competition. The Wuhan University Team finally won the 3rd place and the first prize of groups through great efforts and advanced to the international round held in Washington D.C.

 

This team was built in September 2017 with the support of the Law School and the Institute of International law. Professor LUO Guoqiang of the Institute of International Law is the chief coach, Professor LIU Ying is the coach and postgraduate ZHU Junjie is the assistant coach. Team members include undergraduate of Law school ZHANH Yujun and postgraduates ZHU Ziyi, LIANG Yong and CUI Yuren,

 

The subjects of this competition were coming from the field of public international law, involved the validity of arbitration, nuclear disarmament, use of force etc. The competing language is English, and the oral round was a simulation of the judicial proceedings of the International Court of Justice. Wuhan University Team prepared for the well-designed simulated case of the competition for almost half a year, putting great efforts in to the research of related cases, treatises and theories.

 

In the preliminary round, our team competed with four other teams and advanced into the elimination round with the 4th place. In the following eighth-final, we were matching against with Beijing Normal University. Confronting with strong rivals, our team members stayed calm and performed well, finally advanced into the final eight. Next, in the quarter-final, we contested against Peking University School of Transnational Law. With the solid knowledge of international law, excellent oral English and great team spirit, out team members have won unanimous recognition from all parties concerned, successfully reached to the top four, and finally won the 3rd place.

 

Since the first competition in 1959, the Jessup Moot Court Competition now has a history of more than 50 years. Every year there are over 800 universities from over 100 countries to participate in this competition. It's now the largest-scale and the longest-history professional legal debate competition of the world, and was honored as the Olympics of the field of the international law. This year there are more than 300 competitors from 49 top law schools competing in this game, such as Peking University, Renmin University of China, China University of Political Science and Law. Many well-known judges, scholars and lawyers across the board, including over 40 foreign experts of international law were the judges of the accumulation of around 100 matches.
