The 14th Willem C. Vis East International Commercial Arbitration Moot Court Competition (Vis (East) Moot) was held in Hong Kong from March 27th to April 2nd, 2017. Wuhan University Team came out on top among 125 teams from all over the world and won the top eight. This has broken the best record of Wuhan University in the competition.

Co-hosted by United Nations Commission on International Trade Law and the East Asia Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Vis Moot is the only arbitration moot court competition hosted by the organ of United Nations. This competition attracted a total of 125 top teams from prestigious law schools around the world, including Harvard University, Yale university, University of Freiburg and National University of Singapore. Top universities of Chinese mainland for example Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University and so on also attended this competition.

In Vis (East) Moot of this year, Professor HE Qisheng and Lecturer ZHU Lei of Law School were advisors. Postgraduates of Law School LI Xin, BAO Guihong, James Nolan Munce were the coaches. Team members included postgraduates JIANG Qinhui, ZHANG Yao, CHEN Taiming and undergraduates CHEN Yingyun, CHEN Qiuming and LI Xiangruchen. CHEN Yingyun and LI Xiangruchen as the oralists competed against Gujiarat National Law University, India, Bond University, Australia, Kyoto Sangyo University, Japan and Bucerius Law School, Germany in the round-robin.

After 4-days of intense competition, Wuhan University Team advance as the top 32 and defeated traditional top teams Chinese University of Hong Kong and Humboldt-University zu Berlin and became the top eight. This is also the best result for all teams coming from China.

In the "Moot Shanghai" International Commercial Arbitration debate competition, Wuhan University Team also won the top eight.

Our great success is deeply benefitted from the support of the University and the Law School. During the preparation, coaches and advisors provided large amount of training of legal study, paper research and oral submission. Meanwhile they've invited famous alumni from Herbert Smith Freehills Law Firm, Clifford Chance Law Firm and Gunderson Dettermer Law Firm to assist the training. The outstanding performance of our team members in this competition fully demonstrates the talent of the students of Wuhan University, and also reflects the ability and achievements of Law School in cultivating high-end foreign legal talents.
