The 2016 Silk Road International Fair and the 20th China East-West Cooperation and Investment and Trade Fair were held in Xi'an from May 13th to 17th. The theme of the conference was “Building a New Platform to Promote New Development”. As one of the projects of the Expo Education Cooperation and Exchange Conference, the “the Belt and Road” Cooperation and Development Law Forum hosted by the Northwest University of Political Science and Law and "the Belt and the Road” Legal Research and Innovation Synergetic Center 2016 Annual Meeting” were held simultaneously. We sent Dr. Zhu Lei to participate in this forum and annual meeting.
The "'the Belt and Road' Cooperation and Development Law Forum" is based on the theme of "Strengthening Legal Education Cooperation and Promoting Regional Open Development". Participants will discuss talent training and scientific research cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road. Four experts and scholars made a keynote speech at the meeting, including: "The Mechanism and Efforts of China-Ukraine Educational Cooperation" made by Kanyazov Esemurat, President of Tashkent National University of Uzbekistan; "Strengthening the Belt and Road National Education Cooperation, Training Urgently Needed Legal Talents for the New Economic Belt of the Silk Road” made by Professor Jia Yu, the President of Northwest University of Political Science and Law; “Sharing the National Legal Resources, Serving the Great Vision of the Belt and Road” made by Dr. Xu Guojian, Deputy Secretary General of the China Society of Private International Law, and Secretary-General of "the Belt and the Road” Legal Research Collaborative Innovation Center and “The Combination of Legal Skills and Knowledge from the Perspective of British Lawyers” made by International Law Expert Chris Brown from United Nations Sea-Bed Committee.
"the Belt and the Road” Legal Research and Innovation Synergetic Center 2016 Annual Meeting was held on the morning of the 14th. The center was officially established at the China International Private Law Annual Meeting in November 2015. This meeting is the first annual meeting of the center. The theme is “the Belt and Road Development Strategy and International Rule of Law Innovation”. In his speech, Professor Wang Han hopes that the Synergetic Center can be problem-oriented and integrate the high-quality resources of the participating units to study the major strategic issues in the “Belt and Road” and provide intellectual support for the implementation of the “the Belt and the Road” strategy.
At the meeting, the sponsors of the Collaborative Innovation Center, including China University of Political Science and Law, East China University of Political Science and Law, Southwest University of Political Science and Law, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Northwest University of Political Science and Law, Wuhan University, University of International Business and Economics, etc., summarized the work of the unit. In his speech, Dr. Zhu Lei introduced the work and achievements of the Law School's Belt and Road Law research from four aspects: talent training, academic exchange, academic research and think tank construction. He also highlighted the Chinese Law and International Law Masters Program for International Students whom the Belt and Road is deadly in need of, and the “Experimental Class for Foreign Legal Personnel” and the newly established “Supreme People’s Court Judicial Assistance Research Base”. In the construction of think tanks, Zhu Lei introduced the concept of “opening up think tanks” of Wuda International at the annual meeting, and hoped that all experts participating in the conference would submit high-quality consultation reports on the “the Belt and Road” strategy to the countries through the think tank platform.
