On June 11, the 16th Wuhan University International Law Forum 2018 was successfully held in Room 323 of Law School presided by Prof. Huang Zhixiong. The speaker He Jiawei who was the researcher and chief inspector of INTELLIGEAST gave a speech with the theme of the various career choices for a law graduate student by sharing his own experience.
He achieved his bachelor from Tsinghua University and then got his master degree from Harvard during which time he was appointed as the researcher for the International Law and Armed Conflicts Study Center in the Harvard Law School. After graduation He also worked for Kirkland & Ellis in Shanghai for a time.
HE shared his experience of how to successfully explore his study from Tsinghua to Harvard. The useful ways contains submitting the application form to Supreme Court in China and the UN which can gains him more opportunity for receiving the offer from Harvard. In order to pursue his dream of working in UN, he offered to participate in editing Tallinn Manual 2.0 hosted by Prof. Michael Schmitt. As a result, he made it to have an internship in the Legal Consulting Department of UN. After graduation he went to the Kirkland & Ellis in Shanghai, which equipped him with many useful skills helpful for him to establish his own business- the INTELLIGEAST which offers key information for the legal workers through Internet.
He came up with 3 key points leading to his success: 1.Setting a clear goal as soon as possible. And polishing it by communicating with those who have similar experience; 2. Power of execution; 3. Never give up.
In the part of Q & A, HE answered questions from the participants with a detailed explanation such as the emphasis UN put on the candidates for internship. The meeting ended with the summary of Prof. Huang.
