On May 18th, the International Law Salon with the theme of "Brill and Zero-Distance Discussion about the Publication and Press " was held in the Department of International Law. This salon invited Dr. Jiang Qin, a senior editor of Brill Publishing House of the Netherlands, to introduce the specific procedures and precautions of Brill Publishing academic monographs and journal articles for teachers and students of the International Law Institute. The salon was presided over by Dr. Deng Zhaohui, deputy director of the International Law Institute. The deputy directors Professor Nie Jianqiang, Professor Huang Zhixiong, Professor Yang Zewei, Professor Li Xueping and Zhu Lei attended the lecture. The doctoral students and master students at the school participated actively.
Dr. Jiang Qin first introduced the founding process and main products of Brill Publishing House. Founded in 1683 in Leiden, The Netherlands, Brill is a long-established academic publishing house with a broad international perspective. Brill Publishing focuses on the humanities, social sciences, international law and biology. Its main products include monographs, journals and databases, and many academic products for global university libraries.
When talking about the concern of Brill Publishing on Chinese research, Dr. Jiang Qin said that the publishing house not only pays attention to the history of China, but also pays attention to China's present and future. Therefore, the publishing house created the Chinese contemporary research department, hoping to translate or Other forms publish Chinese scholars' research, establish a platform for Chinese scholars to communicate with the world academic community, and expand the influence of Chinese scholars at the international level. The main partners of Brill Publishing Co., Ltd. in Wuhan University are the Research Center of Wuhan University and the Institute of Environmental Law of Wuhan University. The main cooperation results include English journals such as “Jian Wei” and “China Environmental Law Journal”.
Next, Dr. Jiang Qin gave a detailed introduction to the publication process and precautions of academic monographs and journal articles at Brill Publishing House. Scholars can contact publishing editors in charge of various fields to discuss publishing plans and publication intentions. The publishing editor will consider the classification of the existing book series and send the scholar's plan to the editor-in-chief of the book department to judge the research value and the fit with the book content. After the review is passed, the author needs to complete the manuscript, and the blog will be sent to peer review by Brill Publishing. The review is generally conducted in the form of a two-way blind trial, inviting influential experts in the field or experts who are more familiar with the research, and submitting the results of the review and amendments. After the scholars receive the results of the review, they need to be revised. Pay attention to the questions and opinions raised by the reviewers. After the revision is completed, if the review is passed, the typesetting can be delivered. Brill Press will produce both electronic and paper versions, and the paper version will be released in the form of a hardcover edition. Before the monograph is officially published, the publishing house will also carry out propaganda work, recommending the upcoming academic monographs to the academic circles and various university libraries. The journal paper publishing process is consistent with this, except that it is shorter than the monograph publishing experience in each link.
At the end of the salon, the teachers and students of the International Law Institute asked Dr. Jiang Qin about the publication time and the specific details of the review. Dr. Jiang Qin gave a detailed answer to this. Teachers and students of the International Law Institute have expressed their interests.
