On the afternoon of January 7, the National High-level Think tank,WHU Institute of International Law, held the first session of “Think Tank Thematic Seminars” in Beijing. The seminar was hosted by Professor Huang Zhixiong, deputy president of WHU Institute of International Law. Xu Hong, director-general of the Department of Treaty and Law, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Zhu Zhengfu, director of Guangdong Dongfang Kunlun Law Firm, gave special seminars titled Legal Diplomacy and International Law and How to Write a High-Level Proposal respectively. And members of the think tank council and researchers participated in this seminar.
In the seminar, director-general Xu Hong at first reviewed the significant achievements of China’s diplomacy in 2016, especially the G20 Summit, the Belt and Road Initiative, and the official opening of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. He pointed out that since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, our country has moved from a world power into a powerful nation. China is entering the center of the world stage at a more mature and steady pace. Facing future diplomatic development, we must constantly seek innovation from diplomatic theory and practice. This is a major issue in the study of international law in the new era.
Later, chief lawyer Zhu Zhengfu made a speech on how to write a proposal. He pointed out that the author’s proposal should be clear and logical, and more attention should be paid to the importance of the form and manner of expressions. In particular, the author should learn to explain the profound in simple terms, expressing the professional legal issues in a way that the public can accept and understand.
The timetable of this thematic seminar was compact. As experts in the practice section, the reporters have rich practical experience, whose report contents were highly targeted and cutting-edge. They have provided the think tank researchers present with practical guidance and suggestions. The seminar ended a complete success. (Correspondent: Sun Jiatong)
