The China WTO Moot Court Competition is jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, the China University of Political Science and Law, and the Southwest University of Political Science and Law. It is the only college moot court debate competition hosted by the State Ministry. The event simulates the expert group procedure under the World Trade Organization (WTO) Dispute Settlement Mechanism. The English language is the official language of the competition. The judges are composed by the directors of the Ministry of Commerce, professors of international economic law at famous universities, and senior partners of foreign law firms. The composition is aimed at promoting the mastery and application of WTO rules by university students and promoting the training and selection of WTO negotiation and dispute resolution talents. It is an important platform for the Chinese legal profession to select outstanding talents for international trade law.
The content of the competition mainly includes: (1) writing disputes on the competition, writing the pleadings of the complainant and the respondent in English; (2) on the opinions held by the participants, the players will appear on the spot to make oral statements and respond to the judges’ questions (full-scale simulation of the WTO expert group process).
In 2013, Wuhan University Law School and WTO College were invited by the organizers to form a team for the first time. Under the joint efforts of the participating team members and the instructors, they entered the quarterfinals. Since 2014, the Wuhan University team has won the first prize of the competition for four consecutive years, and has won many honors such as best debater, best memorandum, best guidance.
At present, the 7th "China WTO Moot Court Debate Competition" is about to kick off. The Wuhan University team plans to select 4-6 people to participate in the competition. Team members include Oral and Researcher. students who are interested in participating can apply for it freely.
Selection object
Law school undergraduate students (third, fourth), master's degree students of Wuhan University China Institute of Boundary and Ocean Studies and Wuhan University Institute for international studies or other students of related professions.
Selection requirements:
(1) Have good oral, reading and writing skills in English;
(2) Master the basic knowledge of the WTO law;
(3) A high degree of teamwork spirit;
(4) There is sufficient time to prepare for the competition from the end of September to the middle of December.

2. An English essay (300-600 words) on the theme of “How to apply GATT 1994 Article 20”.
The time and place will be notified by SMS, and the interview form will be oral.
