The 16th ASLI Conference was held June 11-12, 2019 at the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law. The 2019 conference them was “The Rule of Law and the Role of Law in Asia”. Dr. Zheng Wang was invited and presented her paper “Cyber Security Challenges in Trans -civilization Era: Asia Perspective”.
This year’s conference reached new heights. This was the largest ASLI conference ever with 315 participants. Professor Simon Chesterman, Dean of NUS Law, opened the conference with a speech, warmly welcoming the delegates to Singapore and to NUS Law’s historic Bukit Timah campus. This was followed by speeches from Professor Mariko Igimi of Kyushu University, representing the Chairman of the Asian Law Institute (ASLI) Board of Governors, and Associate Professor Gary F. Bell, Director of ASLI.
Under the conference theme, the broad subject areas included Banking and Finance; Children and Law; Competition Law; Constitutional and Administrative Law; Corporate Law & Governance; Criminal Law; Environmental Law; Family Law; Human Rights; Information Technology Law; International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution; International Business Law; International Investment Law; International Law; Intellectual Property Rights; International Regulation of Trade; Law & Economic Development; Law & Society; Legal Education; Legal Pluralism; Maritime Law; Migration, Private Law; Law and Religion; and Women & Law. About 330 international legal scholars around the globe participated the conference and facilitated thorough discussions concerning the afore-mentioned topics.
