On the morning of September 14, 2018, the two-week Beijing-stage training for the fourth phase of ‘China-AALCO Exchange and Research Program on international law’, hosted by the Department of Treaty and Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Institute of International Law of Wuhan University, was successfully closed. They will depart for Hong Kong on September 15 for a one-week training session in the second half of the year.

Kong Xiangwen, Director of the Department of Law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Professor Nie Jianqiang, Deputy Director of the Institute of International Law of Wuhan University, and Associate Professor Liang Wenwen of the Institute of International Law of Wuhan University attended the closing ceremony. On behalf of the Department of treaty and law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Kong congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the two-week training. He expressed sincere gratitude to the professors and volunteers of the Institute of International Law of Wuhan University participating in the training and organization, and also thanked all of the teachers and students who gave great support and cooperation to this training event.

Director Kong said that the Department of treaty and law of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been actively exploring the curriculum design and organizational guarantee for improving training. At the beginning of this year, a training project steering committee was set up, and Ambassador Huang Huikang, the ambassador of the International Law Committee of the United Nations, served as the director of the steering committee. The Steering Committee plans the curriculum design and teacher equipment of the training program in line with the needs of capacity of building international law in Asian and African countries. ‘The  China-AALCO Exchange and Research Program on international law’ has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Asian Institute of International Law and the Institute of International Law of Wuhan University to make the organization of the training course more institutional and professional. The Chinese side will continue to improve the organization and design of training courses so that the training courses can better meet the needs of capacity of building international law in Asian and African countries. It is hoped that the training courses will become a platform for Asian and African countries to exchange and learn from each other and deepen friendship and cooperation in the field of international law.

Director Kong said that China will continue to maintain contact with the trainees in different ways. It is hoped that the participants will jointly care for each other, safeguard and promote the cooperation of Asian and African countries in international law in their respective positions.
