On the morning of September 12, 2018, Professor Zhang Liying of the China University of Political Science and Law was invited by the fourth training session of the China-AALCO Exchange and Research Program on international law. With the theme of "Chinese Traditional Culture",Professor Zhang made a wonderful lecture for the students of all countries.
In order to enable students to gain an in-depth understanding of traditional Chinese culture, the course consists of two types of content, one is explanation, while the other is experience, guessing and competition. In the process of explanation, the related experience activities are interspersed in order to achieve the best teaching effect.
First of all, Mr. Zhang used the rich courseware to teach students the basic situation of China, Chinese characters, folk customs, typical Chinese geological features, China's population structure, and population birth policy. In explaining the geographical environment in China, the Panda Base in Chengdu was involved. In order to strengthen the classroom participation and active atmosphere of the students, Mr. Zhang asked everyone to guess the size of the newly-born panda baby and presented students answering the correct answer with small gift of Chinese characteristic.
When it comes to China's population and family, Professor Zhang mentioned the development and evolution of China's family planning policy and the aging of the population. Because China is the country with the highest legal age of marriage, the teacher taught the relevant laws to determine the essential elements and formal requirements of marriage when Chinese and foreigners marry. When it comes to marriage, it also involves marriage customs. Chinese people like to use the paper-cutting of “Xi” to decorate new houses. The teacher arranged the experience activities of teaching the students to cut the word “Xi”. The students were interested in this. With the help of Teacher Zhang and the help of volunteers, the students from all over the world have created a paper-cut work that combines exotic customs with Chinese characteristics. Everyone happily takes photos with their works
When it comes to traditional Chinese festivals, it involves festivals such as the Spring Festival, the Lantern Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival. In China, the most important festival is the Spring Festival. Chinese families will eat dumplings during the Spring Festival, and they will need to use chopsticks when eating dumplings. The teacher has arranged a special “Pizza” game for the students: it is stipulated to use chopsticks for a specified time. The students with more soybeans won; after the men’ s and women ’s group preliminaries, the finals and the Asian Specialists’ competition, the students from Bahrain and Vietnam won the non-Asian and Asian groups respectively and received beautiful gifts.
The explanation of "Chinese Art" involves "Chinese Drama", "Chinese Tea Art", "Chinese Kung Fu", "Chinese Calligraphy" and so on. After a basic introduction to the content of Chinese Kung Fu, the teacher invited 8 female students and 10 male students to experience the traditional Chinese Tai Chi fan, and presented souvenirs to the students who experienced the experience.
The section "Chinese Calligraphy" covers the structure of Chinese characters, the types of calligraphy, and the four treasures of the study. The experience section requires participants to learn how to take a brush and practice repeatedly on the “water writing paper” that can be reused. With the help of Teacher Zhang and the help of volunteers, the students began to practice calligraphy on the water writing cloth, which is full of fun and challenge for foreign students who picked up the brush for the first time. After a period of study, the students basically mastered the usage of the brush and completed their first calligraphy work with the theme "Fa".
At the end of the course, all the students took photos with all the volunteers and teacher Zhang, with their own calligraphy works. Everyone said goodbye to teacher with the strong interest in Chinese culture. Many students said that through this course, they have learned more about China and learned many traditional Chinese techniques, and they have experienced the profound Chinese culture.
