Weicheng Lin was a simultaneous interpreter with the United Nations Office at Geneva and a conference document translator with the United Nations Headquarters in New York. After he graduated from law school, he changed career and became an attorney with the Office of Human Resources Management, responsible for reviewing labor disputes and staff misconduct cases. As a defense lawyer, he represented the Secretary-General of the United Nations in legal proceedings. He was subsequently appointed as the Head of the Secretariat of the Joint Appeals Board and Joint Disciplinary Committee, providing assistance in reviewing appeals and making recommendations to the Secretary-General. Weicheng Lin was appointed as the Registrar of the U.N. Appeals Tribunal, following the reform of the internal justice system. To improve the court procedure, he initiated several amendments to the Rules of Procedure of the Appeals Tribunal, whose draft amendments were all adopted by the General Assembly. Under his leadership, the Registry staff assisted the Judges in rendering numerous landmark judgments. As of
31 August 2022, Weicheng Lin signed off and certified 1,269 judgments and 469 interlocutory orders for issuance and publication.
